Mark Knopfler hasn't had a hit on my charts since 1986 when So Far Away charted from Brothers In Arms. During his absence he has scored a few decent musical scores including those for Local Hero and The Princess Bride. In 2000 he released a solo project called Sailing To Philadelphia and it provided two top ten hits on the Top 30 AA Songs in 2001. What It Is peaked at #4 early on in the year and the title track, a duet with
James Taylor about Mason and Dixon coming to America to draw their famous line, went all the way to #1. All this makes Mark Knopfler the AA Male Artist of the Year.
I've been a Stevie Nicks fan ever since Rhiannon back in 1976 introduced me to her unique voice. The last chart appearance by Stevie Nicks was back in 1997/1998 with her Fleetwood Mac band members when Silver Spring and Landslide were hits off The Dance, an album of newly realized versions of their Rumours hits. This year she came
back with a vengeance with the album, Trouble In Shangri-la. Three hits made the AA Top 30 Songs chart during the year, Planets Of The Universe, Everyday, and Sorcerer, making Stevie Nicks the AA Female Artist of the Year.
vocalist Tim Freedman. I was introduced to The Whitlams by Australian Paul Verbakel, a long missing member of the Yahoo Top 40 Chart Club via a compilation tape he made for me. It included The Whitlams' Australian hit, No Aphrodisiac, a song which did very well on my charts in 2000. This prompted me to buy Eternal Nightcap and early on in 2001 it was a favorite garnering repeated listens. I even charted the song Buy Now Pay Later (Charlie No. 2) during 2001. Other favorites included the New Orleans flavored You Sound Like Louis Burdett, Following My Own Tracks, a Traveling Wilburys sounding song, and The Beatlesque Melbourne. So in true altenative fashion, the Australian group, The Whitlams, take AA Album of the Year for Eternal Nightcap.
I don't know much about The Whitlams other than they hail from Sydney, Australia and are fronted by songwriter poet keyboardist
